    • Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Collier-Butler Chapel for Command Sergeant Major Elbert V. Ritch, 88, of Southside, who died Friday, Oct. 10, 2008. The Revs. Lynn Hughston and Terry Murphy will officiate with entombment at the Cherokee Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Centre, with full military honors. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.

      Mr. Ritch was a resident of Southside since 1973. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, receiving a Purple Heart, and retired as a command sergeant major of the 101st Airborne in Fort Campbell, Ky. After service to his country, Mr. Ritch owned a shoe repair shop where he repaired shoes for the majority of Fort Bragg and others, sometimes coming from as far away as California. After owning his own business, he finally retired from Dixie Tool and Dye after 13 years of faithful service. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jean Murray; brothers, Doyle and R.T. Ritch; and sister, Myram Johnson.

      He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Ritch; daughter, Ann (Kenny) Gossett; grandchildren, Robert Craig Murray, Jr., Richard Murray, Mike Gossett and Mark Gossett; great-grandchildren, Craig, Chris, Melissa, Sloan, Caleb, Micah, Abraham, Sarah, Ben and Annie Murray, Caitlin, Cade, Mikenzie and Camryn Gossett; and sister, Dorothy (Joe) Laferty.

      The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
