    • Bruch (Bernice) Furman was born in Pervomaysk, Cherson, Russia in 1906, and came to Canada in 1924. She was sponsored by her brother, Isaac (Jack) who lived in Calgary. Joe Ritch was born Joseph Grechanik in Russia in 1902. He came to Canada in 1921, sponsored by his Uncle Shloma Shugarman. He ran a general store in Mannville, Alberta. Bernice and Joe were married on May 23, 1926 in Star City, Saskatchewan. They eventually moved to Myrnam, AB, where son Alex was born in 1927, and Gertrude in 1929. They then moved to Vermillion, AB where Norma was born in 1934. In 1936, they moved to Edmonton, where Joe opened the "Peerless Puff Wheat Factory". In 1940, he opened, "Ritch's Wholesale Dry Goods, then in 1959, "Western Textiles", and finally, "Yardsticks". Youngest son Ron was born in 1941. Alex passed away in 1967 at age 40, leaving behind wife Fran Shlafmitz and their four children. Then in 1968, Gertrude's husband Sam Zivot passed away, leaving Gertrude with their three children. Norma married Dr. Jerry Grobman and has four children. Ron married Carol Kettner and has three. "Western Textiles" was sold in the early 1980s, when the Ritches retired. Bernice died in 1983, Joe in 1992
