- Cordelia R. Bozzone Sauquoit Cordelia R. Bozzone, 96, passed away on February 8, 2011 at the Harding Nursing Home in Waterville. She was born on February 23, 1914 at home on Campbell Rd. in Sauquoit, N.Y. to Patrick and Cordelia Buckley Reilly. After attending Sauquoit Valley School, she entered the Utica State Hospital School of Nursing in 1931. It was there that she saw Irving E. Whitton when she returned to the nursing dorm from a date while, at the same time, he was returning with one of her friends. They made eye contact and that was all it took to start a relationship. She eloped in 1933 with the man that caught her eye. At that time nurses could not be married while in training, so after being reported, she had to leave her affiliation in N.Y.C. She returned to Utica and started a beauty shop in her home on Brayton Park Place. Her parents owned property on Campbell Rd. and Irv built a saltbox Cape where they resided and raised 4 children. Irving James b 1939 d 2005, Jean Cordelia b. 1943, Janet Mary and John Patrick b. 1949. Irv built an addition to their home so that Cordelia could open a specialty dress shop which was called The Cordelia Whitton Dress Shop. Clients loved the selections that she chose for them on her monthly buying trips to N.Y.C. Tragedy struck in 1954 when Irving was killed by a ramset tool he was using. He was an electrician at Utica State Hospital and the tool that he was using was defective. Knowing that she had to support 4 children, Cordelia pursued real estate, becoming a licensed real estate broker and operated The Reilly Real Estate, a business started by her father, P. J. Reilly. Cordelia married August E. Bozzone on Dec. 27th 1959 and together they enjoyed 51 years of marriage. She would often say that he was the love of her life. August died March 3, 2010. Cordelia and Buzz retired to Cocoa Beach Fla. and Virginia Beach, Va. in 1974. In 2001 they moved to Rockport Rd. in New Hartford where they resided until 2009. Cordelia has been a resident at The Harding Nursing Home in Waterville where she received wonderful care by a team of dedicated and loving employees. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all of you. She was pre deceased by her only sibling, Patrick J. Reilly Jr. in 1960.
