    • McXie (Whitton) Martin, age 84, of San Augustine, passed from this life January 1, 2017, in San Augustine. Her Love and knowledge of God's word was known by everyone that knew her. She will always be remembered for her love of history, genealogy and photography. Many of you reading this have pictures she made for you and your families. And her yard was oh so beautiful every spring.

      Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017, in the San Augustine Church of Christ, with Rev. Alton Shaw officiating. Interment will be in the Liberty Hill Memorial Gardens in San Augustine. Visitation will be held Friday evening, January 6, 2017, in the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, 316 West Columbia Street, San Augustine, Texas 75972.

      Obituary of McXie Martin

      Mrs. McXie Whitton Martin, age 84, of San Augustine, Texas passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017. She was born August 31, 1932 at the ‘Whitton Farm’ in San Augustine County to the late William Newt and Ethel (Waley) Whitton. She married Dr. James Moody Martin on April 11, 1952. On September 12, 1954 she gave birth to her only child, James Ricky Martin. Mrs. Martin graduated from San Augustine High School in 1949 and attended Stephen F. Austin University where she received a B. S. Degree in 1952.

      Mrs. Martin was a faithful member of the San Augustine Church of Christ where she taught Bible class for many years. Those who were fortunate to have her as a Bible school teacher will always remember her knowledge of the Old Testament. She was truly a Bible scholar.

      Dr. and Mrs. Martin’s home had a revolving door that was always open to the classmates of their son, Ricky. Some of the students’ fondest memories were those times spent at the Martin home. Mrs. Martin spent endless hours on the side lines of football games, basketball courts, track meets and other school activities, taking pictures of SAHS students and faculty. Because her love of photography, SAHS annuals are filled with memories that we will cherish always. Mrs. Martin was also known for her flawless wedding photos and was highly requested by many.

      Before her health failed, Mrs. Martin was active in a number of civic and historical organizations. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, San Augustine Garden Club, San Augustine Garden Club Restoration of the San Augustine County Courthouse, Marker Chair Person of the San Augustine County Historical Commission and assisted with the research of the San Augustine County Courthouse, San Augustine Library Board, San Augustine County Historical Society, the Genealogy and research of many cemeteries in San Augustine County. Mrs. Martin will always be remembered for her love of genealogy, history, photography and her love of flowers and animals.

      Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dr. James Moody Martin, May 28, 2004; her twin sister, Miriam Whitton Nations on January 20, 2016 and her sister Margaret Ann Whitton on December 30, 1944.

      Mrs. Martin is survived by her son, Dr. Ricky Martin and wife Jan of Lufkin, Texas; Granddaughters Leigh Page and husband Chris of Lufkin; Michelle Maroul and husband Johnnie of Ft. Worth, Texas. Great Grandchildren, Tristan Page, Cole Tyler, Lila Maroul, and Ava Page and many other relatives and friends.

      Serving as Pallbearers will be Albert Bahena, Johnnie Maroul, Brad Mathews, Russell Martin for David Martin, Chris Page, and Seth Smith.

      Services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017, 11:00am at the Church of Christ, San Augustine, Texas with Dr. Ricky Martin and Alton Shaw officiating. Visitation will be at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home Friday, January 6, 2017 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Liberty Hill Memorial Gardens. In Lieu of flowers the family has requested a memorial be given to the San Augustine Public Library.
