      Betty Lou Tucker, age 73, of New Castle, died Saturday in her home after a long illness. She was born Dec. 19, 1928, in New Castle, the daughter of the late James Lewis and Florence Campbell Whitton.

      A lifelong resident of New Castle, she was a 1947 graduate of New Castle High School. She retired from Ameriana Savings Bank in 1990 after 43 years of service.

      She was emeritus member of Altrusa Club; was past president of Phi Chi Epsilon Sorority; and was a member of the National Honor Society. She was a member of the First Friends Meeting in New Castle. An avid bowler, she was a member of the New Castle Women's Bowling Association. She also enjoyed knitting and fishing.

      Survivors include a son, Stephen L. Tucker; a sister, Martha Cross; a brother, Richard Whitton; her stepmother in law, Evelyn Baker; and sister in law, Virgie Miller.

      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, M. Elbern Tucker, in 2000.
