    • He had lived in Remington since 1978, moving from Auburn.

      Mr. Whitton was a tool-and-die maker for 26 years at Magnavox in Fort Wayne and had worked at PerPak in Brook, Ind., for 16 years. He farmed in Auburn and Remington for 25 years.

      A U.S. Army veteran, he served from 1957 to 1960 in Okinawa, Japan. He was a member of the Remington United Methodist Church and a past member of the Auburn Jaycees and the Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was affiliated with the DeKalb County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

      He loved to travel and he and his wife had visited all 50 states and other countries. He enjoyed NASCAR, golf, his grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

      He was born June 7, 1934, in Fort Wayne to Paul and Esther (Zegafuse) Whitton.

      He married Sandra Knochel on May 28, 1961. She survives.

      Also surviving are three daughters and a son-in-law, Chris and Mark Legler of Remington, Cindy Whitton of Wawaka and Connie Whitton of Lafayette; a son, Tim Whitton of West Lafayette; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Bonnie Whitton of Kokomo and Gerald and Janice Whitton of Fairbanks, Alaska, and four grandchildren, Tori, Noah and Elijah Legler and Caitlyn Halferty.

      He was preceded in death by his parents.

      Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Remington United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jaqueline Foley officiating.

      Burial with graveside military rites will take place in Remington Cemetery.

      Calling will be today from 3-8 p.m. at Stitz Funeral Home, 9 North St., Remington.
