Leon was born on June 12, 1926 in Kiowa, Kansas to Herbert and Marie Whitton. His family moved to Wichita his 10th grade year. After graduating from high school in Wichita, Leon joined the United States Army and served in WW 2, 1st in the Philippines and finishing up in Okinawa, Japan.

Once he'd completed his service in the Army, Leon returned to Wichita and attended the Wichita State University, where he received his Master's Degree in Logopedics to work in the field of Speech Pathology. He stayed on at WSU as a professor, and had the privilege of having his baby sister, Jayne as his student. Jayne always looked up to Leon and loved sharing the story of him being her professor.

In 1971, Leon, his wife, Lorene and children, Keith and Kerri moved to Enid to teach at Phillips University and the Speech and Hearing Clinic. He then started working for the Enid Public Schools as a Speech Pathologist and dedicated the next 20 + years to helping both children and adults with speech disorders. He finally retired in his early 70's.

Being the social person that Leon was, he spent his time volunteering at Integris once he retired. He was loved by all that knew him and worked with him and known best for his positive and encouraging spirit. Leon was preceded in death by Lorene, his wife of 61 years, and his daughter, Kerri who was 52 years of age.

He is survived by his son, Keith and his wife, Judi, along with grandkids, Drew, Sara, and Maci Whitton of Edmond, and Blake Livingston of Tulsa.
