Iola married Frank Whitton and set up house with him and his two young children, Frankie and Judy.

      They lived in Edmonton.

Frank and Iola raised spinger spaniels. Freckles, their favourite bitch, had many litters. Frank and Iola gave a puppy to Verna’s family – the kids named it Lassie. Freckles was an excellent retriever.

In later years Iola and Frank moved to British Columbia (1973) became lighthouse keepers on Porlier pass Range Rear Lighthouse, 1971-1973 Galiano Island.
They passed a couple of happy years there. Iola recalls that fishing boats would detour by the island and leave a fish on the dock for their dinner.

Frank passed away in his sleeep , from a heart attack one afternoon when he was not feeling well and lay down for a nap.

      Iola moved to Victoria.
