    • Grady Whitton, 86, of Center, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008 in Center. He was born December 31, 1921 in Alto, Texas to James Eli Whitton and Mary Gertrude Patterson Whitton. Mr. Whitton served in the U.S. Cavalry during World War II as part of the Burma China Defensive. He continued to serve his country as a federal livestock inspector. As inspector he patrolled the Rio Grande River for illegal cattle contaminated with fever ticks. He retired to Center in 1981, where he farmed and raised his family.

      Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Sardis Cemetery with .
