    • Dr. Ron Eger, 65, of Beaumont, died Sunday, July 19, 2009. A native of Dryden, Ontario, Canada, he was born September 15, 1943, to Ruth and Fritz Eger, and had lived in the Beaumont area since 1978.

      He graduated in May 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Lakehead University in Thunderbay, Ontario, after which he graduated from The University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba with a Doctorate in Medicine. Dr. Eger also completed his Neurosurgery Residency at the Montreal Neurological Institute in Montreal, Quebec, and practiced medicine on Vancouver Island.

      Throughout his career in medicine, he worked and was affiliated with a number of various hospitals in the Southeast Texas area.

      He was active in numerous professional and charitable organizations. His dedication to the practice of medicine earned him the Doctor of the Year Award of Mid-Jefferson County Hospital in 1981 along with numerous other accolades and honors.

      Survivors include his wife, Mary Swandollar Eger of Beaumont; sons, Stephen Eger and his wife Heidi of Regina, Saskatchewan, and Ryan Hooks of Houston; daughters, Gillian Culham and her husband Kevin of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Ashley Hooks of Beaumont, and Elizabeth Rush and her husband Brian of Scottsdale, Arizona; five grandchildren; mother, Gladys Eger of Oakville, Ontario, Canada; brothers, Albert Eger and his wife Bette-Lyn of Roberts Creek, British Columbia, Canada, Timothy Eger and his wife Marilyn of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, and Doug Eger and his wife Jacqui of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; sister, Judith Eger Knowles and her husband James of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and numerous nieces and nephews.

      A gathering of his family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m. until time of service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

      A private family committal will be held at Broussard’s Crematorium.
