    • OUNG MAN KILLED. SMASH AT - BROOMEHILL. Cars Collide at Intersection. KATANNING, Aug. 15.-A young man was killed, three other people were in jured and three children received a severe shaking when two motor cars col lided at an intersection at Broomehill this afternoon. One of the cars con cerned in the collision was carrying eleven people at the time. The victims were: - KILLED. PATTERSON, Andrew John (17), contractor, of Broomehill. INJURED. HALL, Elsie Maud, of Broomehill-Injuries to back and shock. Admitted to Katan ning Hospital. HALL, Edward John, farmer, of Broomehill Injured leg and shock. Admitted to Kat anning HospitaL WHITTON, Sadie, of Broomehill-Injured leg and shock. Admitted to Katanning Hos pital. Joseph Hall (9), Robert Hall (7) and Lorraine Hall (5) were also admitted to the hospital, suffering from shock. None of the injured is regarded as being in a serious condition. The collision occurred shortly after 2 o'clock. A touring car, owned and driven by Edward John Hall, farmer, of Broomehill, and carrying as passengers Elsie Maud Hall, the wife of the driver and their five children, Roy Whitton, his wife, Sadie Whitton, and their two year-old child and Andrew John Patterson, the deceased, was travelling along Janice-street across the intersection with the main York-Cranbrook-road. A sedan car, driven by Henry Christopher Bur kett, Town Clerk of Narrogin, and with Alfred Brown, of Porongorups, as passen ger. was approaching Broomehill along the main road from Tambellup. The two cars collided on the intersection. The road was muddy and the car driven by Burkett skidded. The right front mudguard struck the left rear wheel of Hall's car, which was thrown into a somersault. It landed on the wheels. Burkett's car capsized and rolled on to its hood, the two occupants escaping in jury. The deceased, who was in the back seat of Hall's car, was thrown out when the collision occurred and the other occupants were shot out of their seats when the car somersaulted. Constable McCarley, of Broomehill, arrived on the scene a few minutes after the collision occurred and he was fol lowed shortly afterwards by Mrs. Nor man Anderson. They rendered first aid and a bystander, Ernest Moir, at the constable's request, telephoned to the Katanning Ambulance, which was soon at the scene. Dr. Pope was summoned and Patterson and the other injured people were ordered into hospital. They were taken to the Katanning Hospital, a distance of 13 miles, in two trips. Con stable Jones, of Katanning, driving the ambulance. Patterson died in hospital at 4.10 p.m. He had suffered a frac tured skull.
