  • Notes
    • “Anything I have no control over and can’t help anyway or anyhow, I don’t let it worry me nor do I get real excited.” Mrs. Evelyn Frances Edwards Jones, age 94, of Pinnacle, passed away on Sunday, Easter morning, April 24, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on November 1, 1916, in Stokes County, to the late David Franklin and Florence Smith Edwards. Mrs. Jones is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Donna Rae and John Michael Ritch, of Mayodan, and Gail Mizell, of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Lorrie Mizell, of Garner, Kenny Mizell, of Raleigh, Amy Mizell, of Apex, Michael Shane Ritch (Heather) of Jamestown, and Amanda Ritch Ware (Jeffrey), of Toronto, Canada; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew Mizell, of Apex, Mackenzie Mizell, of Garner, Jacob Ritch and Rylie Ritch, both of Jamestown. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Ray Jones; brother, Homer Edwards; and sister, Elsie Mabe. Mrs. Jones accomplished a lot in her life that was marked by her strength, faith, and humorous quips. She was the oldest high school graduate at Surry Community College where she secretly went at age 74 to obtain her GED. She retired at age 80 from her full-time job and celebrated with her first four-wheeler ride. Mrs. Jones was involved with such organizations as the Pinnacle Fire Auxiliary, membership in Chestnut Grove UMC for 94 years, UMW, journaling, caring for the infirmed and volunteering in nursing homes where she was older than most residents. Throughout all this she continued to mow her four acre lawn and tend her flowers that she said required more care than babies. Mrs. Jones admired the wonders of nature and road trips, appreciated cars and was a fan of NASCAR car racing, hockey, NCAA and golf. Her kind spirit, warmth, generosity, determination, and her ability to show us the way will guide her family and friends forever. Funeral services will be conducted on April, 27, 2011 at Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Nathan Snyder officiating with interment to follow in the Pinnacle United Methodist Church cemetery.
