      Alton B. Whitton, 82, of Syracuse died Monday at Loretto.

      A native of Parishville, Mr. Whitton lived several years in Canton and five years in Central Square before entering Loretto six years ago. He had been a dairy farmer in Canton. His wife, Celia, died in 1984.

      Surviving are two daughters, Joan Harris of Syracuse and Barbara Spicer of Hollywood, Fla.; a brother, Neil of Central Square; a sister, Dorothy Thorton of Georgia; a grandchild; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

      Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Cunningham Building chapel of Loretto. Spring burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Central Square.
