- STANLEY: It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Kenneth on August 14th, 2016 at Fairview Home. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend as well as a caring and generous man who will be greatly missed. Ken was born the youngest of ten children on August 29th, 1923 in the Cornwallis District, making him almost 93 years old. At the age of one, Ken’s parents moved the family to the Roseland District. Ken attended Roseland school until he had to work the dairy and grain farm full time. At that time, they bottled milk and delivered it to Brandon. Ken joined the Army and went through basic training in Prince Albert, SK for four months when the war ended. On May 25th 1955 he married Elsie Templeton. Ken’s parents moved to Brandon so Ken and Elsie lived on the homestead and continued with dairy and grain farming. Times had changed and the milk was then picked up at the farm. They eventually went out of the dairy business but then had beef cattle as well as grain. After time, the cattle were sold but they continued with grain farming. They had three children - Dawna, Debbie and Bryan and eventually two grandchildren - Dallas and Tyler. In 2011, Ken and Elsie moved to Brandon. Ken’s family and farming were the centre of his life. He loved to have gatherings at the farm with his many siblings and their families. There were many Christmas dinners, barbeques, and ball games. He was always willing to help out his neighbours and enjoyed working with his hands and tackled most projects with ease. Ken was one of those guys who knew how to get the job done. He played baseball, hockey and curled and was an active member of a local bowling league and the Snowgoers. Many cold weather adventures were made including snowmobiling to Yorkton, Winnipeg and Minot. In spite of being a home body, Ken enjoyed trips throughout Canada including both coasts as well as California, Texas and Florida. Ken’s health took a turn for the worse in October 2015. Afterward, he was in Brandon Regional Health Centre, Hillcrest Personal Care and Fairview Personal Care Homes where he received excellent care. Ken is survived by his wife Elsie; daughters Dawna (Dennis) Figol, Debbie (Bill Shoup), and son Bryan; grandsons Dallas and Tyler Figol; sisters-in-law Helen Stanley, Sylvia Roberts, Beth (Hubert) Halladay; brother-in-law Jeff (Noreen) Templeton and many nephews and nieces. Ken was predeceased by his parents Fred and Edith (Gerow) Stanley; brothers Harold (Ellen), Gordon (Dorothy), Percy, Clarence and Albert; sisters Luella (Alex) Ramsay, Isabelle (Bob) Ferguson, Irene (Ron) Ward, and Jean (Wally) Ritch. A private graveside service was held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens on Monday, August 22, 2016 followed by a come and go reception for family and friends at the Riverview Curling Club.
